Why the pretentious French title?

Escritoire

Why Escritoire de l'Art? Well, "Culture Desk" was already taken, but I'm pretty delighted with myself for coming up with a title that's French, rhymes (with the proper accent) and means roughly the same thing.

Escritoire: a French word for a writing desk, particularly one with compartments that can be hidden with a retractable flap.

Now, allow me this stretch of a metaphor: the compartments of the escritoire are the many little regions of my brain that meditate on art: literature, painting, music, dance, etc. Normally, I don't unpack those compartments. I'm a little scared to, I guess. Which is worse for an aspiring writer? To have her words be met with scorn or for them not to be read at all? But you never know until you try, they say. I'm finally taking that to heart.

So. Inviting you all to my Escritoire is me opening the flap. I'll own whatever wild, dim-witted, and hopefully occasionally insightful thoughts I let into the light. I hope you stop by!
